The Institute of Medical Biology and Genetics has a rich history that reflects its significant contributions to the fields of medical biology and genetics. Here’s an overview of its development :

 Overview of activities

Considering the position of biology in the structure of the educational program at our faculty, the main goal of teaching biology is to provide students with the latest knowledge in the field of theory and methodology in cell biology, molecular biology and genetics, including methods of gene manipulation. Students will learn about the principles of classical genetics, basic cytogenetic data and information about clinical genetics, including computer simulations. The question of the origin of life and the development of organisms is not left out, including the latest opinions on the development of biological species.

Students will also learn the basics of in vitro cell culture and the basics of theoretical and practical applications in the field of alternative methods of animal experiments in teaching, research and toxicity testing.

The practical exercises are organized in such a way that they complement the material presented in the lectures. Topics are discussed during short oral presentations and in guided discussion in small groups.

Another goal is to stimulate students' interest in basic experimental skills with an emphasis on all aspects of light microscopy.  Students will also learn about the importance of basic biomedical research for clinical work and the methodology of how to read and interpret original scientific papers.
